About the Alaska Region - Did you know?

The Alaska OCS Region encompasses over 1 billion acres and more than 6,000 miles of coastline. That’s more coastline than in the entire continental United States. Our Region encompasses the Arctic oceans, the Bering Sea, and the Northern Pacific ocean. The shoreline includes Native villages, small fishing villages, and large cities. The diversity of ecosystems in the Region is astounding. It is in this environment that the Alaska Region must find a way to provide the opportunity to explore for petroleum and still preserve the environment and the lifestyle of the people living adjacent to its coast.

Size of Alaska Compared to Mainland

Alaska is the largest state with over 656,400 square miles. It is approximately 2000 miles from east to west. If placed on top of the mainland it would stretch from Atlanta to Los Angeles.
