Released Geological and Geophysical Data
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) permits and regulates all geological and geophysical exploration for oil and gas on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). The BOEMRE has acquired a large portion of these data in order to insure that the Federal Government receives fair market value for leases issued for oil and gas exploration and for other regulatory functions. Regulations require that these data be held proprietary for 25 years and then are released to the public.
The first data to be released will become public in the year 2001. In this year, approximately 37,750 miles of seismic surveys in the Alaska OCS will be released. The total inventory of seismic data in Alaskan waters that will be eventually released totals nearly ½ million miles. The following announcements detail the current releases and are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
