MMS Research Supports the Alaska Marine Science Symposium in 2010

The Alaska Marine Science Symposium is an annual science meeting held in Anchorage, Alaska, which provides opportunities for scientists to inform each other about their research activities in the marine regions off Alaska. An estimated 700-800 people attended the Alaska Marine Science Symposium in 2010. This year's symposium included opening remarks by Alaska Senator Mark Begich. The symposium included plenary talks, workshops, meetings, and poster receptions by scientists conducting research in Alaska.

The symposium schedule is organized geographically by the three large marine ecosystems off Alaska, including the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea, and the Arctic. Individual panels in the plenary sessions are focused on the main components of the ecosystem including climate and oceanography, lower trophic level productivity, fish and fish habitat, seabirds, marine mammals, and human systems.

This year, over 30 MMS sponsored research projects within the Beaufort, Chukchi, and Bering seas were presented in the form of oral presentations and poster sessions, including six workshops and planning meetings held by MMS scientists and MMS sponsored Principal Investigators. The MMS sponsored presentations can be found at the following MMS web site:
