The McCovey Prospect is within a Federal/State of Alaska unit area. Leases are owned by ConocoPhillips Alaska and Chevron and are being operated by EnCana Oil Gas (USA) Inc.

On February 28, 2002, the MMS approved EnCana’s Exploration Plan for the McCovey Prospect in the Beaufort Sea. Drilling began at McCovey late in 2002. On February 2, 2003, EnCana applied to the Minerals Management Service to permanently plug and abandon the well.
